Sharing a Birthday

It’s kind of fun when you discover that someone you’ve admired for a long time has the same birthday as yours. They might be a movie star or a sports hero; in my case, it’s THE FIRST AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Recently, I was sorting through my late mother’s belongings and came across a Bicentennial edition of our CONSTITUTION. In light of what I have chosen to do (or not do) with my life, imagine my absolute delight in learning that THE FIRST AMENDMENT was ratified on my birthday, December fifteenth! (1791 for the AMENDMENT; I was ratified in 1944)

I wonder if my mother knew what an auspicious birthday she had given me. I wish I could ask her.
